It had been a while since Ricky died of old age.
The guy was full of weird stuff, sneezing, puking, biting.
Clumps of hair, everywhere.
No more constant brushing against your leg.
Or the wary yellow gems resting on you.
It was exactly 2 days ago last year that we found her.
Shivering pitifully, sounding an alarm with her teeny weeny voice.
Skin still moist. New Born.
She was beside the bin, in a plastic bag to be exact.
We watch her try to get up,
And crumble down again, her tiny legs unable to take it.
How could we let her lay there?
Elvis the cat man said he could barely look after another cat.
And after all, we found her.
It was decided then.
She would lay in a mattress of warm towels
While we got her some "necessities.
At the store, milk, bottles...
Everyone was excited for the little one.
Mamia didn't know how to explain another one in the house
Her amusing sighs and complains, and I thought I sensed a little excitement.
Possible.
We returned to find her hiding in the shadows,
Poking her curious nose everywhere.
How did we have to feed one again?
Milk in a saucer?
She stepped right into the saucer
Like a kid would jump into a puddle.
She stuck her nose in the warm milk.
Making the leathery nose glossy.
What happened next?
I think she was sucking hard at the milk.
The milk helped her wobble to her feet.
After a few unsuccessful tries to stand,
She finally managed to succeed, even walk a few steps!
A few days later, we went to visit the cat.
A cat!
Was that what she was?
A cat, cat.
She looked like a bear.
Athena, she was called.
Athena had deep blue black eyes.
Rounded ears, not sharp.
A permanent candy cane type of tail
And lastly, a diamond shaped brown patch of fur between her ears.
Legend has it that the Greek goddess Athena - of wisdom, war, strategy, industry, justice and skill - was born from Zeus's forehead.
Zeus had swallowed Athena's mother, Metis to avoid a prophecy that an offspring of Zeus and Metis would be greater than Zeus. Zeus then swallowed Metis along with the unborn Athena. Metis gave birth and nurtured Athena inside Zeus until Athena burst out from Zeus's forehead, fully clad in armor and with weapons.
Hence, Athena's - the cat's - name.
